SPOKANE -- The Washington winner of the $380 million Mega Millions jackpot is expected to be revealed Thursday at a press conference in Olympia. A Washington Lottery official confirmed the identity of the winner Wednesday. The winner is expected to speak alongside their family around 2 P.M. from the lottery headquarters.
The Idaho Mega Millions winner still has not been identified.
Early Wednesday morning KREM 2 News learned one of the tickets was sold at a Safeway store in Ephrata, Washington. Ephrata is the Grant County seat, just north of Moses Lake.
But, then the lotto odds became even more astounding. At about 9:00 Wednesday morning we confirmed the second ticket was also sold in the Inland Northwest, at a yet-to-be named store in Post Falls, Idaho.
Idaho Lottery officials tell KREM.com their rules are more stringent compared to some other states, and they usually don't disclose the location of the store that sold the winning ticket. But we're told they're discussing the matter given the unusual circumstances.
Here's how the Mega Millions payout breaks down*:
$380 million - the total estimated jackpot
$190 million - the jackpot divided in half because there are two matching tickets
$102.7 million - the lump sum for EACH of the two winning ticket holders
$73.9 million - the lump sum after taxes, for EACH of the two winning ticket holders
$7.3 million - one of 26 yearly payouts for EACH of the two winning ticket holders
$5.3 million - one of 26 yearly payouts after taxes, for EACH of the two winning ticket holders
The winning numbers are 15, 47, 4, 25, and 8, with mega ball number 42.
Lottery officials said the jackpot will be divided evenly between the holders of the two tickets.
Odds of winning were approximately 1 in 179 million.
The original jackpot was estimated around $335 million but last minute ticket sales bumped up the prize to $380 million.
