SPOKANE -- Crews from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway spent the Monday evening at the scene of a train derailment.
A BNSF official said the minor derailment happened around 6:30pm near the trestle over Helena between Sprague and Trent.
Two cars derailed during a switching operation in the rail yard. The BNSF official said one car was an empty tank that had a roofing product in it. The other car was an empty gain car.
Crews used a crane to get both cars back on the track. The BNSF official said the train was traveling 3 miles per hour when the derailment occurred. Nobody was hurt and the derailment did not pose any hazard to the surrounding area. The BNSF official said the derailment did not affect the main line.
BNSF is investigating the cause of the derailment.
