SPOKANE-- A new study shows travel and tourism rates in Washington state may be on the rebound.

Travel experts have good news for people in Washington and Spokane. Tourist spending in 2011 was better than expected and the outlook for 2012 is even brighter.
Spending plummeted over the past few years as many cut travel and entertainment from their budgets.
In 2011, things slowly started to rebound. Travel spending increased by 5% statewide.
Northern Quest Resort And Casino says they're noticing the uptick.
2012 is expected to be even better with more large scale conventions coming to Spokane.
Events like the upcoming Olympic trials for women's boxing will also bring big business.
While the numbers for 2011 are an improvement, they are not quite back to the level prior to 2009.
