BONNERS FERRY, Idaho-- A man was rushed to the hospital early Thursday after his car was hit by a train in Bonners Ferry.

It happened around 3 a.m. at the Pine Island Road Burlington Northern Crossing, near U.S. 95.

Idaho State Patrol troopers said Kyle Maas, 27, was stopped on the tracks when a southbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train smashed into his car.

Medics took the man to Boundary Community Hospital.  Authorities said he was "very lucky" because doctors treated and released him from the hospital.

Authorities said he was not wearing a seatbelt.
