RATHDRUM, Idaho-- A young woman who drove in front of a cargo train was dead when deputies got to the scene, according to Kootenai County Sheriff's Deputies investigating the collision.
The collision happened around 8 a.m. Thursday at the tracks near Ramsey Road, just north of Boekel Road, in Rathdrum. Deputies say it is not a main route for trains, and there are no flashing lights or crossing arms at the intersection.
The train engineer told deputies he saw the white car stop briefly, but then it continued on into the train's path. The two collided, and the train pushed the car about 70 feet down the tracks before it rolled off to the side.
The victim has been identified as Rebecca Birdsong, 22, of Rathdrum.
