SPOKANE, Wash.—A man was recovering early Wednesday after being hit by a train overnight in downtown Spokane.
Authorities said it happened just after 11:30 P.M. Tuesday near Third and Ash.
Police said the conductor noticed the man on the tracks and immediately hit the brakes. They said the man tried to get out of the way but didn’t make it off the tracks in time. The train caught up to him and severed one of his feet.
Medics rushed the man to a local hospital while police and fire crews tracked down the severed limb in hopes of reattaching it.
Investigators are now trying to figure out what the man was doing on the train tracks.
