POST FALLS, Idaho.-- A 17-year-old boy reportedly drowned Thursday night in the Black Bay on the Spokane River, according to authorities.
Members of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office and Kootenai Fire and Rescue responded to the reported drowning at around 10:15 p.m.
Witnesses said several teenagers were swimming in the river when one of them shouted out that he could not swim any more, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office. The 17-year-old boy slipped under the water and never resurfaced according to witnesses.
Divers found the man 10 ft. under water near the shore and began resuscitation efforts, according to law enforcement. He was transported to Kootenai Health and later pronounced dead, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities are withholding the name of the victim until family members are notified of the death. The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into the cause of the drowning.
