SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- The teenage boy hit by a deputy’s patrol car last month has died.
The mother of Ryan Holyk posted on Facebook Wednesday night the family decided to take the 15-year-old off his ventilator. The family also said Holyk’s organs would be donated.
Holyk had been hospitalized since the collision.
Deputy Joseph Bodman hit Ryan Holyk as he was riding his bike near Vista and Sprague, according to authorities. Officials said Bodman was headed to a domestic violence call around 10:30 p.m. May 23, going westbound on Sprague when his patrol car clipped the Holyk’s bicycle and sent it spinning.
Witnesses said the deputy had a green light at the time of the crash. Authorities also said the officer tried to avoiding hitting the boy by swerving. The patrol car's emergency lights were not being used at the time, according to officials.
