SPOKANE, Wash. -- Authorities recovered stolen property Thursday morning after they spotted a stolen car in the front yard of a home in Northwest Spokane.
Officers found a white Toyota parked in the yard of a home on W. Francis Avenue near W. Indian Trail Road. Officials said the car matched the description of a car on the “Hot Auto” list distributed to officer every day. A stolen motorcycle was also found in the back of the home.
Authorities contacted Mark Merrifield, 37, inside the house. Merrifield was arrested for two outstanding warrants.
Officers then got a search warrant for the house. They found more stolen items including another stolen motorcycle and two wave runners that had been stolen from Pend Oreille County.
They also recovered items taken in a burglary in Five Mile Prairie. Those items included family jewelry pieces that had been handed down by other family members, a guitar and other personal items.
Merrifield was then taken into custody for three counts of Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle and two counts of 1st Degree Taking Motor Vehicle Without Permission.
Most of the stolen items recovered were able to be returned to their rightful owners.
