STEVENS COUNTY, Wash.--A Stevens County detective was shot Tuesday evening about 20 miles outside of Arden, Washingon according to authorities. Investigators said the detective was shot by a man with a shotgun.
Authorities said the detective was taken to a Colville hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Authorities at the command post said the suspect is dead.
A team of law enforcement officers from Spokane were at the scene looking into the shooting.
Authorities said the detective was responding to a disturbance call at a home on Scott Rd in Rice, Washington when a suspect opened fire on him with a shotgun as the detective exited his vehicle. The deputy shot back, hitting and killing the suspect, authorities said.
Spokane County Sheriff's spokesman Craig Chamberlin said preliminary information showed that the deputy had been hit in the hand and ear by shotgun pellets.
The deputy was released from the hospital on Tuesday night.
