SPOKANE, Wash.--Authorities arrested a 17-year-old murder suspect after a three-hour standoff Tuesday night at Knights Inn near Division and Francis.
The teen is accused of shooting and killing 20-year-old Yesica Olivos in Walla Walla County. Her body was found last Friday along a Walla Walla-area road.
Authorities from that county tipped off Spokane Police that the suspect was staying at the Knights Inn motel. SWAT, FBI, SPD and hostage negotiators were called to the scene around 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Investigators said four people who had barricaded themselves in a room finally came out of the motel peacefully around 8 p.m. The 17-year-old male suspect was taken into custody along with another man and two women.
Police said they were glad the standoff ended smoothly.
"We had several different entities here working together and you can't complain when everything comes together, a good solid plan, and nobody's hurt and it is without incident," said Lt. Justin Lungren with Spokane Police.
The 17-year-old was facing 1st Degree Murder charges and was expected to be extradited to Walla Walla. The other people taken into custody in the standoff faced charges for rendering criminal assistance.
