SPOKANE -- The victim of a brutal stabbing in East Spokane is out of the hospital, less than a week after attackers nearly severed her leg.

Danielle Bains said she was getting ready for bed when she heard a knock on the door of her home in the 4000 block of East Pacific late Monday night. Bains opened her door and saw a man and a woman.

"She started fighting me, and there was another perpetrator in the room. He held me down, while she cut me," she said. “I was left there bleeding to death.”

Bains said she knew her attackers, but does not know why they assaulted her. Detectives are investigating it as a gang-related crime. Bains denies she is in a gang, and does not associate with any gang members.

She almost lost her leg in the attack, and will need three more surgeries for it, as well as physical therapy, before she is fully healed. Bains also needed 14 staples to close wounds to her head, and will need reconstructive work on her finger.

“What they did to me is inhumane, I don't know how someone could do this," she said.

Bains is upset her attackers still have not been charged. She wants prosecutors to go after them for premeditated murder.

“They were coming there to kill me,” she said.
