SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) - The city of Springfield, Oregon, will unveil its mural honoring "The Simpsons" on Aug. 25.
The Register-Guard reports that city officials and Yeardley Smith - the voice of Lisa Simpson - will dedicate the mural at noon. Smith will also sign autographs and answer questions.
Series creator Matt Groening grew up in Portland. He told Smithsonian magazine two years ago he named Springfield after the city in his home state.
The mural follows several years of talks between the city and "The Simpsons" producers on commemorating the link between the real and fictitious Springfields.
The mural is projected to cost about $10,000. The city is using tax revenue from hotel rooms to pay for it.
