SPOKANE, Wash. -- A Spokane man will be given a large prize every year after winning the top prize on Washington’s Lottery “Lucky for Life” Scratch game.
Kelly Cruz will receive $52,000 annually for the rest of his life.
Cruz bought the ticket on New Year’s Eve. He scratched it in her car and immediately realized he had won the top prize. He went to the Spokane regional office to claim his prize the very same day.
“The first thing I’m going to do with the money is purchase a lifetime membership to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation,” said Cruz. He is currently a member and volunteer.
Looking ahead, Cruz said he was excited the money would free up more time from work to spend with his father. He told Lottery officials, “I am his primary caretaker, and I can’t wait to get out of the house and do fun things together.”
In the past, Cruz has won $50 to $100, which makes this his first big win.
