SPOKANE, Wash.--A new national survey ranked Spokane as one of the most affordable cities in America.
Cities from all across the country participated in the survery to figure out how communities compare to the national cost of living.
Local leaders are hoping the numbers bring more business to Spokane.
Living in Spokane means you pay less for groceries, to own a home and for utilities compared to most of the nation according to the survey.
Spokane’s cost of living is less than the national average. Spokane beat out big cities like San Jose, Los Angeles, Chicago and Seattle.
"If anybody’s traveled to those places, they're going to see we're a much more affordable place to do business,” said a representative for Greater Spokane, Inc, Robin Toth.
Spokane scored higher than the national average in the areas of cost of transportation and health care. Those scores were higher than most of the country.
Spokane scored lower overall in the survey than smaller towns like Asheville, North Carolina, Bozeman, Montana and Boise, Idaho.
"This is a great place to live and a great place to do business,” said Toth.
The numbers released Monday are similar to results for Spokane in past years of the survery.
