SPOKANE, Wash. – On Saturday, the day before the Super Bowl, experienced and inexperienced cyclists will hop on stationary bikes and burn some calories.

But they’re doing it for more than the physical benefits: it’s the YMCA’s big fundraiser to make sure no child who wants an active lifestyle gets turned away.

“Pedal for a Purpose” is a stationary bike relay that will take place at three YMCA locations in February:

Central YMCA: Saturday, Feb. 1
North YMCA: Saturday, Feb. 8
Spokane Valley: Saturday, Feb. 22

The YMCA invites teams of 12 coworkers, friends or family to sign up. Each team member raises a minimum $100. If an individual wants to participate but doesn’t have a team, the YMCA will find them a team to join. The organization hopes to get 60 teams to participate between the three locations to raise a goal of $515,000 which goes toward the YMCA’s scholarships and youth programs.
