Suspect tries to avoid arrest and hits Spokane Police officer with car

Spokane, Wash. -- Spokane Police said an officer was hit by a car but was not injured when a suspect tried to flee a traffic stop Sunday evening.

Authorities said an officer saw a car in the area of West Central and recognized the driver, Laci Anthony, 27, had a felony warrant for her arrest. The officer stopped Anthony at Ash and Gardner.

Officials said the officer confirmed the driver was in fact Anthony and told her she was under arrest. Police said when the officer tried to take her into custody she put the car in drive and drove away from the scene.

They said the door post of the car hit the officer as it sped away. The officer was knocked to the ground but he was not injured.

Officers located Anthony’s car abandoned several blocks away at Bridge and Lincoln. Authorities said people nearby directed officer to where Anthony had fled. Anthony was taken into custody a block away.

Anthony was booked into jail for Eluding, 2nd Degree Assault and a felony warrant for 2nd Degree Theft. She will make her first court appearance at 1:30 p.m. Monday.
