SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -- A man who tried to flee police in a stolen car Thursday night appeared in court Friday.
Casey Gillette, 29, is accused of attempting to elude, possession of a stolen vehicle. The state says Gillette fought hard to get away from police and he could face a second degree assault of an officer charge. A judge set his bail for $35,000.
Gillette's previous criminal charges include resisting arrest, driving with a suspended license theft and drugs.He also has six failure to appear.
Spokane police say an officer suffered a broken collar bone in a fight with a car theft suspect who also was injured during his arrest.
Officers tried to stop a car for reckless driving Thursday night when it sped away. They rammed it in a PIT maneuver to force it to stop. Gillette and a woman passenger tried to run away.
Police say Gillette was caught a short distance away and fought with officers who made the arrest. The woman also was arrested.
Gillette was treated for a possible rib injury.
