SPOKANE, Wash. -- A new book written by Hall of Fame basketball player and Spokane native John Stockton is now on sale.

The book titled “Assisted” is named for the people who helped assist the all time NBA assist leader throughout his life.

Stockton’s book also details his life story from growing up in the Gonzaga University neighborhood to his all star career with the Utah Jazz.

Kerry Pickett co-wrote the book with Stockton. Pickett was Stockton’s junior high school basketball coach at Saint Aloysius in Spokane.

Pickett was a Gonzaga Law Student when he started coaching Stockton's Parochial School Team. Now 40 years later, they're still such good friends that they teamed up to tell the story of a basketball legend.

It took the duo three years of 60 to 80 hour work weeks to complete the book.

"John certain limits of privacy. He didn't want this to be a tell-all. He wanted this to be an honest and frank look at his life and what connections there were between his success and the things that had happened to him along the way," said Pickett.

Stockton touched on a number of topics in an interview on ESPN Wednesday.

Assisted is available at the Gonzaga book store and Auntie’s bookstore. Hastings and Barnes and Noble at the Northtown Mall and in the Spokane Valley. A book signing is planned for December 8th at Aunties at 12pm in Downtown Spokane.
