SPOKANE, Wash.-- The high fire danger across much of Central and Eastern Washington prompted several fire departments to beef up staffing.
The combination of high wind and low humidity had fire departments all over Spokane County on stand-by Monday.
“The last couple of fire seasons locally have been pretty mild. This year it looks like we've got a more normal fire season,” said Fire Chief Bob Anderson. He added Monday’s conditions were the most intense he’s seen in the last few years.
District 9 staffed an extra four brush engines alongside the extra dozer crew. Officials said they would stay on the clock into the evening when the wind died down.
Fire crews from Spokane County assisted with wildfires near Wenatchee, White Salmon, and Lincoln County.
