SPOKANE, Wash. -- Spokane emergency dispatchers said the Fourth of July generally sees a 25-35% rise in 911 calls than an average day. The fire department asked the public not to call about illegal fireworks shooting off unless it involved a serious emergency involving fire.

They said at least 300 people called this year anyway. Dispatchers find themselves stuck explaining that police and fire crews could not possibly respond to each call.
