SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- A man who was allegedly killed by his half-brother was the father of a 2-year-old.
David McCarthy was allegedly shot and killed by his half-brother Ryan Ames during a fight on Tuesday night.
McCarthy’s fiancé, Tiffany Speight, said she and the victim had a son together. Speight said that McCarthy was a great man and a loving father.
Friends of Ames said this was a case of self-defense but those close to McCarthy say other wise. They acknowledge McCarthy had a troubled past but say he was different now.
The shooting happened near 31st and Collins across from University High school.
Police said Ryan Ames and David McCarthy got into an argument at home. Ames fired one round from a shotgun and shot McCarthy in the stomach according to investigators. McCarthy later died at the hospital.

Witnesses of the shooting claim McCarthy was threatening to slit the throats of family members according to court documents. Detectives are charging Ames with second-degree murder for shooting him in the stomach and for allegedly saying McCarthy got what he deserved.
Court documents show Ames admitted to detectives he was not physically harmed before he shot McCarthy.
