SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash.—A Spokane Valley family was shaken up on Easter weekend after a man crawled through their bedroom window on Saturday. It happened at the Clock Tower Place Apartments on Fourth near Sullivan in broad daylight.

The family could not believe the man was bold enough to break in through the front of their apartments. They said they were even more stunned that he did it while they were home.

The family said it happened around 9:30 a.m. Jasmine Jacobs, 7, and her family were getting ready for an Easter egg hunt when she noticed a stranger outside the window of their apartment.

Her dad came to check out her daughter’s suspicions.

“There was a guy standing on my bed. With my wallet in hand,” said father Clayton Jacobs.

Clayton Jacob’s said the man also took his cell phone. He said he chased the man down the street while his wife called Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies eventually found the suspect, Jamie Lafay, a couple of blocks away. He was arrested for residential burglary.

"The officer said he was so drunk he thought he was in Liberty Lake,” said Clayton Jacobs.

His wife, Kelsey Jacobs, said she was proud of their daughter for recognizing a stranger.

"Yeah it was a really violated feeling. A scary feeling,” said Kelsey Jacobs.

The family said they learned that no matter what time of day it is they should keep their doors and windows locked.

The Jacobs wanted to thank deputies for how quickly they responded. It only took them 15 minutes to track down and arrest the suspect.
