SPOKANE COUNTY--Spokane County leaders have released maps showing where you can produce and sell marijuana with the proper licenses.
Residents in south Spokane County have different opinions on having marijuana growing in their backyard.
"I think the last thing people growing marijuana want to do is get tangled up with the law,” said homeowner Ken Speiring.
Speiring said the regulations for getting a producer’s license will help weed some people out and encourage growers to do it right.
“The people who are going to do it aren't going to be shoddy about policing their effort and watch it all vanish because they are doing it wrong,” said Speiring.
Speiring lives off the Palouse Highway. That is one of the places people can choose to grow according to the new maps.
One woman that wanted to remain anonymous in Spokane County said she is worried about marijuana coming to the area.
"They have their party, we can smell the marijuana lofting over the hill to our house,” said the woman.
She said her neighbors already grow medical marijuana and she does not like the people it brings into her neighborhood.
"We have people very high driving fast, going off the roads into the wheat fields and running into our property. And if the kids are out there.. what can happen,” said the woman.
She said she would rather have producers in commercial areas near marijuana retailers.
Marijuana growers and sellers can begin applying for licenses on November 18.
