SPOKANE VALLEY--  Spokane Valley firefighters were called out to a fire on the 2200 block of Marguerite Road at about 2:30 Saturday morning.

Two adjacent garages attached to a duplex were on fire. No one was home in the north unit at the time.

The neighbor in the south unit woke up to the smoke detector going off.

That person was able to make it out safely.

Firefighters also rescued two cats.

The cats are being treated by a vet.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The fire caused about $350,000 in damage.
