COEUR d'ALENE--The man suspected of stabbing someone in the area of HWY95 and Wilbur Ave. in Coeur d'Alene was taken into custody Wednesday.
A witness says someone emerged from a wooded area just north of Target with multiple stab wounds and collapsed on the divider in the middle of the road Monday. Bystanders provided basic first aid to his wounds before EMT’s arrived.
The suspect, 56-year-old James Kountz, was considered armed and dangerous while officials searched for him. The victim, James R, Hoglen, sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper torso and on his face. He is in stable condition at Kootenai County Medical Center.
Sheriff’s deputies blocked off HWY95 from Prairie to Canfield Avenue for two hours as they searched for the suspect. They’ve opened the highway back up as the search has moved away from the area.
Kountz has a criminal history and was in jail recently.
The North Idaho Violent Crimes Task Force located wanted subject James H. Kountz Wednesday around 5:40pm. He was located in the same wooded area where the stabbing occurred.
Kountz had an outstanding warrant for attempted 2nd degree murder.
