Add it to the list of changes you'll soon see at Seattle's waterfront: the family-owned arcade that's long called Pier 57 home is leaving, and not by choice.

The arcade owner had been operating under a month to month lease at Miner's Landing, and says he knew the closure would happen eventually, he just didn't think it would happen so soon.

"We thought we had a little bit more time than we do now, but we were given 30 days notice and will be closing on September 22nd," said Mike Cichy.

He is a fourth-generation arcade owner, and his family has run the arcade at the waterfront for two decades.

"It was hard to hear," he said. "We've been here for so long, and my kids have grown up here, I've grown up working at the arcade. It was tough."

The owner of Pier 57 told KING 5 the arcade has been a great tenant for many years. He said the decision to end the lease agreement was not personal. He also said it wasn't directly connected to ongoing construction on the waterfront.

Cichy said there are no hard feelings.

"They've spent a lot of money here, the owners have, trying to develop new rides and new activities for people," Cichy said. "They were unsure how we were going to fit in with that. I don't harbor any hard feelings toward them, and I know they don't towards me."

The arcade posted signs on Tuesday, alerting it's customers of the upcoming closure. Many told KING 5 they will be sad to see it go.

Cichy is already searching for a new location to open the family business.

Ultimately, he says he'd love to find a new location along the waterfront. Even with the inconvenience of the seawall construction, he says the foot traffic the waterfront brings to its businesses simply cannot be beat.

"There is a lot of changes happening up and down the waterfront, yeah," he said. "But I think it will be really good for the whole community, and i hope we can find a space here and be a part of it."

The arcade's last day at the Miner's Landing location on Pier 57 is September 22nd.
