SPOKANE -- A standoff started around 9:00 p.m. Monday as part of a domestic dispute.  Police say John Hartz, 48, locked himself inside his house near Montgomery and Stevens in North Spokane.

Police thought Hartz had a shotgun and a knife.  A police negotiator tried to convince Hartz to come out.

Police called in SWAT members around 11:00 p.m. because of the dangerous situation and used a robot to communicate with Hartz.  Eventually officers used a chemical agent to get Hartz to leave the house.  They say he gave himself up willingly shortly after that.

When police searched the house, they found a gun but no knife.

Hartz faces First Degree Domestic Assault and burglary charges.
