OKANOGAN COUNTY, Wash. -- Leaders of the Okanogan County Public Utility District said power in the area could take several weeks to be restored due to the damage from the Carlton Complex Fire.

Officials said the cities of Pateros, Carlton, Twisp and Winthrop are all without power. They said the electric system is almost a complete loss.

Okanogan PUD workers are working around the clock to fix the issue.

Authorities said using small generation unit will compromise the safety of utility and emergency service workers. They said the small generation units are not being installed correctly and they are energizing electrical lines that should not be energized.

Officials ask that you call 509-422-3310 before connecting a generator to your home.

PUD leaders say they are assessing the damage and they have crews ready to help with restoration.

They said they cannot begin that process until the fire is sufficiently contained.
