POST FALLS, Idaho.--Post Falls police said there was an attempted robbery on Tuesday at the Flying J Truck Stop.

The truck stop is near W. 5th Avenue and N. Idahline Road. A clerk said a man entered the store and demanded money from the register, according to police. Police added the suspect did not show a gun. The clerk refused the man’s demands and he fled the store on food, according to authorities.

Officers identified the man as 21-year-old John Daniel Owens. They said he was a transient out of Pahrump, Nevada who had only been in the Post Falls area for three weeks.

The clerk had described the man to police. A second caller, unaware of the attempted robbery, reported a suspicious man near Pleasant View Road. Her description matched the clothing description of the suspect, according to authorities. While police searched for Owens, a third caller reported a man in the Raycap Incorporated parking lot. Police said he also matched the suspect description. The caller had said the suspect was last seen taking his shirt off by the river.

Police found Owens in a pair of shorts sitting next to the Spokane River. Owens confessed to the attempted robbery.
