COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho -- Authorities said a 57-year-old man went missing on Lake Coeur d’Alene Saturday evening after the storm hit.
The Kootenai County Sheriff said they responded to the area of Stevens Point just south of Tubbs Point around 7:30 p.m. They said Gary “Scotty” Shawver jumped into the water after an item that fell from the boat he was driving.
Officials said Shawver was not wearing a life jacket and was not able to make it back on to the boat. The Sheriff’s Dive Rescue Team deployed divers into the water but they could not find him. Officials said the water is between 130 and 140 feet deep in that area.
Video captured by a KREM 2 News viewer on shore showed very choppy water from high winds as the dive team was conducting the search.
Shawver’s body was not recovered. Crews will continue their search for him Monday when the weather clears.
