SPOKANE, Wash. -- Parking in Downtown Spokane may become more difficult when big events roll in town. Construction on a new hotel project across from the Convention Center will close a busy parking lot.
The lot off of Spokane Falls Boulevard had spaces for roughly 250-300 cars. It was scheduled to close Monday.
The spot will soon be the home to a 15-story hotel.
“I’m really excited to see the hotel go in,” said Paul Fruci, who owns a building just east of the parking lot. “To see Walt Worthy’s company put that in, I think it’s a real positive thing for Spokane.”
Fruci says everyone will have to find spaces in other lots downtown.
“Actually, I’m looking forward to getting a little more exercise,” Fruci joked. “I usually try to get as close as possible because I’m always usually late.”
“It’s not that big of a deal,” said Kemper Rojas, who parks in the lot. “I don’t mind walking, but I know the price is going to go up and that’s a bigger issue.”
Other people who frequent the Convention Center said they did not want to have to find new places to park once the big lot closes.
“It’s the only convenient parking lot in that area. People will be scrounging out on the street,” said Paul Wapato.
Once the hotel project is complete, there will be a parking garage attached with about 900 spaces open to the public and hotel guests.
