SPOKANE, Wash.—Four people were in custody early Wednesday after they led police on a wild car chase through Spokane.
Authorities said it all started early Tuesday when Spokane Police said a few suspects stole a blue Subaru in a carjacking. That happened around 2 A.M. near Sharpe and Riverton. Besides taking the car, police said the suspects also stole a gun. The victim was severely injured and had to go to the hospital.
Several hours later around 11 P.M. Tuesday, someone called police saying they saw people brandishing a weapon in a car near 5th and Rebecca. When police caught up with the car, they attempted to pull the driver over. But, the driver sped off reaching speeds upwards of 70 M.P.H.
The driver lost control of the car and crashed through three fences and into the side of a building near Trent and Freya. The car then caught fire.
Police said four suspects ran from the scene, but two were caught with the help of the K9 unit. Officers managed to take the other two suspects into custody.
Investigators said it is unclear whether the suspects in the crash were also involved in the carjacking. However, the gun stolen in the carjacking was recovered from the scene.
“It is a treat to be able to catch guys like this, there's no doubt about it. Obviously there needs to be some more investigation done to lock down who was involved this morning, but it feels good to have that gun back for sure,” said Spokane Police Cpl. Mike Carr.
Two suspects had to be hospitalized for bite marks from the K9 unit. In all, three males and one female were booked into Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for Possession of Stolen Property.
Police plan to pull fingerprints from the car Wednesday but said it could be difficult because of the fire.
