SPOKANE, Wash—An elderly driver hit a pedestrian Saturday afternoon on Hawthorne Road in North Spokane.

Responding officers said 83-year-old Betty Thompson was turning onto the Highway 395 Northbound on-ramp when she struck 34-year-old Abigail Carretero-Hernandez.

Hernandez was walking in the crosswalk at the time according to Washington State Patrol.  She was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center with unknown injuries.

State patrol officers said Thompson was not paying attention. She was not injured in the crash according to police.

Police said charges against Thompson were pending Saturday evening.
