SPOKANE – Later this month, a jury will being hearing the details of a crash that killed an off-duty officer riding his motorcycle last summer.
The woman charged with leaving the scene of that deadly crash, Brianna Knapp, was scheduled to go to court Monday, but the Bonner County Daily Bee reports the trial has been postponed to July 29.
On July 24, 2012, off-duty Spokane Police officer Kurt Henson was on a motorcycle ride on Highway 200 near Clark Fork, Idaho, when he crashed.
Investigators and a witness said, not long after that, Knapp drove over Henson and his crashed motorcycle before driving away from the fatal crash. Investigators found her Dodge pickup parked on the side of the road about 100 yards from the scene with no one inside.
Knapp turned herself into police the following day.
According to court documents, when interviewed, Knapp said her truck was damaged when she struck a raised edge in the construction area. Investigators said the damage to her truck was likely the result of running over Henson and his motorcycle.
But Henson is not charged with contributing to Henson’s death; only leaving the scene of that deadly crash: a felony.
