WHITMAN COUNTY – A woman in her nineties died as a result of a head-on crash on Highway 26 west of LaCrosse.
It happened just before 5:00 p.m. at milepost 103, about 30 miles west of Colfax.
Washington State Patrol says 22-year-old Diana Chun was driving westbound when she crashed head-on into a car going the opposite direction. A preliminary investigation shows Chun fell asleep at the wheel.
Troopers said the car Chun hit, a Toyota Prius, rolled down an embankment and landed in a shallow creek. A passenger, Susie S. Koontz, died at the scene. The driver and two other passengers, all elderly, were transported to a hospital by helicopter.
Chun and a male passenger were transported by ground to a hospital in Colfax.
Troopers say drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
