SPOKANE, Wash. -- An elderly woman was found dead after a fire ripped through a north Spokane home.
The fire broke out shortly after 7 p.m. Friday on Smith Street between Francis and Bruce.
Many neighbors tried to rescue the woman, but the flames proved too difficult to save her. They say the 91-year-old woman has lived in the home since the 1940s.
Investigators are looking into how the fire started.
The home suffered significant damage, most of which was contained to the top of the house.
