SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash-- Authorities responded to a shooting in Spokane Valley near 31st and Vercler on Tuesday afternoon around 4:30 p.m.

Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies said one man was shot in the stomach. He was rushed to the hospital where he died.

The victim was shot by his brother according to authorities. According to jail records, the suspect, Ryan R. Ames, faced a 2nd Degree Murder charge. Deputies said the suspect called 911 and lives in the home where the shooting happened.

Ames was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail Tuesday night.

The victim in the fatal shooting was identified by court documents as David McCarthy.  The Sheriff's Office said Wednesday an autopsy was planned on McCarthy’s body.  The victim was Ames’ half brother, according to the documents.

Court documents also revealed Ames talked about shooting McCarthy after deputies made contact with him.  Ames reportedly said McCarthy had assaulted multiple members of their family in the past, and that he had not talked to McCarthy in a year.  Ames told McCarthy not to come on the property, according to the court documents.  He said McCarthy continued to walk toward him while smiling.  That’s when Ames said he shot at McCarthy once when he was only a few feet away. Ames also said as McCarthy was dying, he yelled "you got what you deserved."  The documents went on to say Ames admitted McCarthy did not harm or touch him before the shooting.

Detectives said they recovered a 20 gauge shotgun from a couch in a home in connection to the case.  They also found a .44 caliber revolver.
