SPOKANE, Wash.—Traffic was slow on Newport Highway on Saturday after a driver was seriously injured in a crash just after 2:00 p.m.

Washington State Patrol officers said the driver was traveling northbound on Highway 2 near Winchester Avenue.

Authorities said a pick-up truck crossed into the southbound lane, went over a barrier, and crashed into a tree. Medstar airlifted the driver to Sacred Heart Medical Center with serious injuries according to police.

Officials shut down the highway to make room for the helicopter to pick-up the driver.

Washington State Patrol began an investigation into the incident.
