COEUR D’ALENE—The plan to replace the Third Street boat launch in Coeur d’Alene is beginning to take shape.
Anyone can use the current launch which sits right next to McEuen Park and the Hagadon Marina.
A new plan calls to move the launch one mile down the road to Silver Beach. The plan is part of the controversial McEuen Park revitalization.
The new $2.5 million dollar ramp would sit on Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive. Initial plans call for a wider ramp that would allow three boats to launch at one time. The new launch would also feature more parking for vehicle and trailers.
“We probably have the most valuable water property in the state of Idaho,” said Doug Eastwood, “ the idea is to get the greatest number of use out of the greatest number of people and right now we don't have it.”
Eastwood works as the Coeur d’Alene Parks and Recreation director. He warns that the plan is not 100% complete.
Crews must build a replacement boat launch before they can begin overhauling McEuen Park. The Third Street launch will be replaced with a waterfront recreation area.
City leaders have yet to set a date for construction to begin.
