SPOKANE-- Neighbors in the West Central neighborhood of Spokane are teaming up to spread good news around their area.
The area used to have a source for sharing good news, but lost funding from the city in 2010. Now neighbors are starting their own independent publication to keep providing that service.
Louise Stamper is the co-editor of West Central News, which put out its first monthly issue a couple weeks ago. She hopes it highlights the people and programs making a positive difference in the neighborhood and ignores the reputation she believes the community doesn't deserve.
The newsletter will be available at the West Central Community Center, local convenience stores and distributed at nearby schools.
So far businesses have agreed to publish a new issue through May. Each month they'll print 3,000 copies. A local store that sponsors an issue gets a feature in the newsletter and in two months they'll expand to four pages.
