SPOKANE, Wash. -- The City of Spokane, Friends of the Centennial trail, and Greenstone will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Spokane River Gorge Section of the Centennial trail. It runs from the Monroe Street Bridge through Kendall Yards to Sandifur Bridge.
The event itself will be held at The Nest Plaza on West Summit Parkway in Kendall Yards on September 27 from noon to 2:00 p.m. The event will feature guest speakers, a community open house, and refreshments.
“We would like to publicly express our appreciation to the many advocates of the Centennial Trail and Spokane River, as well as to all of the agencies and individuals that have been instrumental in making the completion of this section of the trail possible," said Greenstone CEO Jim Frank.
Visitors are encouraged to walk or ride bikes on the new stretch. Greenstone will even offer complementary bike rentals for visitors to take a ride on the path during the ribbon cutting ceremony.
“Downtown is just a short, beautiful walk away along the picturesque Spokane River. This is another example of a partnership delivering a great community asset," said Spokane Mayor David Condon.
