SPOKANE, Wash. -- The video showing the deadly shooting of a robbery suspect on Wednesday night was recorded by a group of people who live a block away from where the shooting happened.
Jonathan Thomas recorded the cell phone video showing the confrontation with police. Before officers opened fire, the group of friends described the scene as calm. Officers were trying to get the suspect to surrender peacefully.
“They were trying to coax the guy out. They were doing their job at first, they were saying hey nobody wants to hurt you. We don’t want to hurt you,” said Thomas.
Neighbors just feet away could not see what was going on. They heard a similar situation.
“The cops repeatedly asking two people to surrender and to come out with their hands up. And we just kept trying to listen in and the next thing we heard was, ‘He has a gun.’ Immediately, it was he has a gun then boom, boom, boom, boom,” said Shakota Robbins.
Everyone KREM 2 spoke with who witnessed the shooting said it is an ordeal they hope to never experience again.
“I cried for a little bit. It’s scary, traumatizing. Not something you want to see honestly,’ said Crystal Dobson.
