SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- Deputies said they arrested a man for burglary Wednesday after the suspect was found inside a home they had just responded to.
The Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the burglary in progress call near the 18500 block of East Sinto. When law enforcement arrived, a neighbor standing next to the victim’s garage reportedly told the deputies he thought the suspect was still inside the home. According to investigators, the neighbor also said he watched the suspect arrive on a bike, try to open the garage door, and then walk around to the back of the house.
Officials said a deputy went to the partially open side door of the residence, looked inside and saw the suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Alexander Mangarella, wearing dark colored clothes and a headlamp. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the deputy yelled ‘police’ and Mangarella ran through the house. The deputy ran to the front door and saw the neighbor holding the door shut. Investigators said the deputy had the neighbor move to a safe location, then opened the door and heard Mangarella say “ok, I give up”.
Mangarella was taken into custody without incident, deputies said.
Mangarella was booked into jail for Residential Burglary.
