SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) -- The Lake Pend Oreille School District planned to take public comments on a proposal to arm teachers in district schools.
The district school board scheduled a meeting Tuesday at the Sandpoint High School auditorium to discuss a plan to train and arm select school staff members.
Trustee Chairman Steve Youngdahl introduced the plan at a board meeting two weeks ago.
Youngdahl says armed school staff could be effective at stopping a threat to students before police have a chance to respond.
He has proposed that certain staff members be trained and licensed to carry concealed guns. He says their identities would only be known only to law enforcement officials and school administrators.
