(SPOKANE VALLEY) -- Many saw it.  No one knows what it was.  At least not yet...

Around 10:30 Wednesday night, the phones in the KREM 2 newsroom lit up with people wondering what that bright flash was, followed by a loud boom!  The calls came in from Spokane Valley, saying it looked like it was around the Barker Road area, or perhaps Sullivan, or perhaps Pines.

They called authorities as well, who sent out a couple of officers to check on the area, but they didn't find anything.  We put the question up for discussion on our KREM 2 Facebook page around midnight.  Now there are 119 comments!  One woman says she's sure it was a meteorite.

We called the National Weather Service in Spokane.  One of the meteorologists there says he heard it too, but doesn't know what to make of it at this point.

Fairchild Air Force Base had no exercises Wednesday night.

Both Spokane Valley Police Department and Washington State Patrol couldn't pin point the sound either.

Officials believe the sound was centered in the area of pines and main but they say it wasn't out of the ordinary.

The investigation continues...
