SPOKANE, Wash. -- A Spokane woman accused of tossing her baby down a 50 foot embankment has a criminal history.
She was recently arrested while allegedly driving a stolen car.
Despite no violent offenses on her record, Spokane Police described Ahenakew as someone they knew.
In addition to that stolen car charge, Ahenakew's record also includes reckless driving and theft.
She also has a misdemeanor for driving with a suspended license.
Those familiar with Ahenakew said she also had issues with drugs.
Ahenakew's family told KREM 2 News she has two children.
"She is a good mother, a good caring mother, she took good care of her baby," said Della Ahenakew, Destiny Ahenakew's grandmother.
KREM 2 News also spoke with the father of the baby boy.
He said they are trying to get the little boy back.
Ahenakew's family told KREM 2 News one of their relatives currently has him.
The boy was released from the hospital and is expected to make a full physical recovery.
Ahenakew is currently facing 1st degree assault of a child.
Spokane Police detectives said it could be upgraded to attempted murder.
