SPOKANE, Wash.—A Spokane County Sheriff’s Office deputy could face theft charges. Deputy Charles Sciortino is accused of stealing about $700 from Spokane County.
On Monday, investigators suggested Sciortino be charged with misdemeanor theft. The charge was forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office.
Sciortino was placed on administrative leave in early March. Detectives were investigating accusations that he stole upwards of $700 from Spokane County.
Officials said Deputy Sciortino is accused of working another job while he was supposed to be patrolling Spokane County. If that accusation is true, officials said it would be considered theft because the deputy was allegedly clocked on for duty for the county and collecting pay for a shift that he was not completely fulfilling.
