MEAD, Wash.-- The national champion calls in the Inland Northwest home.
Langston Ward was crowned the National Poetry Out Loud Champion late Tuesday in Washington D.C.
Ward recited two poems, "The Gift" by Li-Young Lee and "A March in the Ranks Hard-Prest, and the Road Unknown" by Walt Whitman, for the competition.
He beat out over 2,000 other students from across the country, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Along with bragging rights, Ward gets to take home a $20,000 award.
