SPOKANE-- The man who shot two Spokane Deputies then later shot himself was identified as 41-year-old Charles Wallace.

Wallace is no stranger to police. He was involved in a federal drug trafficking ring.

Court documents show he was accused of trafficking heroin with seven other people between April 2011 and February of this year. He was arrested just last may.

Court documents show a judge released him from custody, and assigned him to a half-way house. He was due in court Monday for a status hearing, but he didn't show up

Wallace has an extensive criminal record and we'll be digger deeper into that in the coming days.

Emergency crews responded to Newport Hwy and Elm for reports of two officers down Tuesday around 4p.m.

Around 4:15 pm two deputies performed a traffic stop at Elm and Newport Highway and the suspect, Wallace, fired at deputies. An officer down call was made and the suspect fled several blocks away to the west.
